Artistes thrill at Star/Digicel back-to-school fair

Entertainers billed for the Digicel/STAR Jus' Skool back-to-school fair are today expressing gratitude to the organisers for allowing them the opportunity of being a part of the event.

The annual back-to-school event saw several entertainers, including Busy Signal, Tifa, Tanto Blacks, Pink Boss and Devin Di Dakkta putting in performances. THE STAR caught up with Tanto Blacks before his set and he explained that he jumped on the idea of being on the show because he supports events that give back.

"From it come on to dem things here, we affi show we support because we a people people and we're all about the kids dem," he said. "This event is rich. The kids dem can come out and get some things, so it's a good thing. Big up Star and Digicel."

Busy Signal also expressed joy at being able to do his part to make the event a success. While thanking THE Star and Digicel for putting on an event he described as well needed, he encouraged other corporate companies to put on similar events.

"This is a good move by Star and Digicel because a lot of parents can't afford a book leaf much less the whole book, so events like these are needed," he said. "It's the people who support these companies, so it's only natural that they give back to the people; and I hope more companies will see these events and think about giving back in a similar way."

The event, held at the St Willian Grant Park in downtown Kingston on Saturday, saw thousands of students receiving well-needed back-to-school supplies - from books and pencils to tablets and book vouchers. The event is only in its second year, but has experienced so much growth that the organisers are already thinking of expanding it to other parishes.
