PANAMANIAN Dick Cardenas' three-timer, back-to-back winners to open the programme - BROMPTON BOY (7-2) and HICKORY SLIM (1-2) - followed by a romp in the fifth with 5-2 chance SMART ASSET, influenced yesterday's paltry Reggae 6 payout of $5,820.

HICKORY SLIM was among four winning Reggae 6 favourites, EAZY PEAZY (1-2) and HE'S SENSATIONAL (7-5) closing a hat-trick of chalks before FUNOMETER made bettors happy at 3-5 in the closer at four furlongs straight.

Unlike Saturday when GIANT VIGOROUS upended bets at 11-1 in the fifth, a four-furlong blink sprint for three-year-old maidens, resulting in a payout of $152,758, yesterday's stunner arrived one race too late to rock the Reggae 6.

EMPRESSINTHEBREEZE, ironically partnered by female rider Natalie Berger, won the seventh event as a 21-1 shocker, denying Cardenas a four-timer aboard NEWLAND LINKS by a half-length.

Alford Brown, whose HE'S SENSATIONAL won the fourth for three-year-old maidens by a nose from GOOD CONSCIENCE at seven and a half furlongs, also landed the Typewriter Trophy at seven and a half furlongs with United States-bred UNSPUN.

UNSPUN ran INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD off his legs, foiling the 2024 St Leger winner's attempt at winning a second overnight-allowance race since May.

Reporting red-hot for his second outing from Brown's barn, UNSPUN franked his runner-up effort behind 2023 Guineas winner, MOJITO, in the September 14 Kenneth Mattis Memorial, launching from the gate under Ryan Lewis to wrest the lead from INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD.

UNSPUN won by two unwavering lengths, clocking 1:33.1, his fifth win from 14 starts and second overnight-allowance victory, marking a return to open allowance, having nailed fellow American UNBELIEVABLE FORCE at six furlongs on May 3.

Yesterday's meet concluded September's month of racing, heralding October's opening Saturday-Sunday weekend with fireworks expected in the grade one Philip Feanny Gold Cup at seven furlongs on Saturday, a win-and-you're-in for December's US$300,000 Mouttet Mile.
